It's no easy deal
Dropping the weight of all of our issues
Can get to be quite a heavy load
Only we don't know the full measure of the weight

It's become a companion we don't leave home without
Not like a heavy jacket we can just take off and that's it

Not a bag we can just put down
More like a bunch of sweaters and t shirts
and dresses and blouses
Like we've been getting dressed for years day after day

Without ever showering
Only disrobing for a moment but surely
keeping the garment close by
So as to slip it on again and add onto that

This is why the summers seem hotter
