A poem a day for 2013 - day 66 - For Tanya McDowell part 2

I'm over good white people
Good white feminists
Who let us know that
Their issues are our issues
Because we all have a vagina
And their fight is our fight
And our fight is our fight
I am angry about the no noise
About a black woman
Being sentenced to twelve years
Twelve
Twelve
Count to twelve slowly
In Spanish
In French
In Ebonics
Twelve years for sending her son
To school outside her district
Her son
To school
Twelve years for violating
Connecticut's "Stay in your place, Chocolate face" law
I was Tanya McDowell
So was my mother and
So was yours
How can we let this woman
Sit in jail for twelve years
Or five
Or fifty more minutes
Without our voices
Our fists
Our letters
And the rest
