A poem a day for 2013 - day 358 - Sadly this holy

We gathered over gumbo
With red wine and conversation
Cake and cookies
Spinach dip and chips
Dressed in black with ties
Long skirts and stockings
Boots and baby crying
Holiday laughter and cheer
Until I asked about Devin
Who will not see New Years
Because sitting in a car
In the city of Compton
Is a crime I suppose
Worthy of death
