Gratitude

I am thankful today for the waking

For my morning fingers in the rough of my hair

For rough as reminder for leave in conditioner

I am thankful for money for leave in conditioner

I am thankful for my son

Thankful for the car ride together to his job

Thankful for his easy I love you

His words are holy

His love is pure

He ain't gas or time

He's my son

Thankful for poetry

Thankful to call myself a poet

A healer

A teacher

A reader

A seer

I am thankful for good food

Good friends

For a warm and cool and dry and safe place to sleep

To work

To play and remember and cry and rest

I am thankful for my functioning limbs

For speech and touch and sound

For my feet on the ground

For my mother and sister

My nieces and nephews and cousins

For my ancestors and guides

My mentors

For my memories

For the moments

I am thankful for my friends

For hands that hold and lift and comfort

For arms that rock me

I am thankful
